Hong Kong March 12,
2000 - PSINet Hong Kong Limited, a subsidiary
of the Internet Super Carrier PSINet Inc., announced
that its Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President,
Mr. David Kunkel, from the US Headquarters has been
invited as the keynote speaker at the Hong Kong Information
Infrastructure International Conference on March 16,
2000. This conference, entitled “ A New Era of Opportunities
” , is a highlight of the Hong Kong Information Infrastructure
Expo and Mr. Kunkel will address on the topic “ E-commerce
in the 21st Century ” .
While the Internet is growing faster than any other
communications technology in history, and is becoming
an ubiquitous and essential tool for business, its potential
in Asia is only beginning to scratch the surface. As
the market begins to develop, the demand for services
will begin to be dominated by Internet Super Carriers
-- a new type of communications company that can both
compete and cooperate in a variety of market spaces,
and change the way we do business forever. In the conference,
Mr. Kunkel will outline the development of these new
globe-spanning operations and how they will affect the
conduct of business in Asia.
Mr. David Kunkel is vice chairman of PSINet ’ s board
of directors and executive vice president of the company.
Mr. Kunkel began work in the Internet in 1995, and was
counsel to the first large regional network, NYSERNET.
He acted as outside counsel to PSINet from its inception
in 1989 through 1995, when he joined the company, serving
in various capacities including General Counsel. Before
joining PSINet in 1995, Mr. Kunkel practiced international
corporate law and also specialized in major systems
contracts, computer law, licensing and related matters,
starting in 1971.
In his private law practice, Mr. Kunkel was a senior
partner with the New York-based law firm of Nixon Hargrave
Devans & Doyle, (now Nixon Peabody LLP) where he
chaired the Technology and Intellectual Property Group
and served on the firm ’ s Operations Committee. Prior
to joining the law firm, he served as both a line and
legal officer of the U.S. Navy from 1968-71.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Mr. Kunkel received his
bachelor ’ s degree with high honors in philosophy from
the University of Virginia, and his LL.B from the University
of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American Bar
Association and the International Bar Association, and
is listed in Who ’ s Who in America and related publications.
