HONG KONG, 13 June 2006 - CPCNet, a wholly owned subsidiary
of CITIC Pacific (SEHK: 267), and Symantec (Nasdaq:
SYMC) have unveiled their first all-in-one service offering
that provides network connections and security for enterprises
with operations in the Greater China region.
The new service offering marries CPCNet's Managed Services,
high-speed MetroCONNECT service connectivity with Symantec
Gateway Security appliances to deliver a unified threat
management (UTM) solution offering both performance
and peace-of-mind in one convenient package.
To offer an all-in-one managed security UTM device
deployment, CPCNet will provide enterprises with the
Symantec Gateway Security appliances and software through
a cost effective monthly package. Moreover, CPCNet will
be responsible for initial installation and configuration,
subsequent hardware/software maintenance, as well as
on-demand configuration changes from time to time.
As the Greater China markets continue to strengthen,
international enterprises need reliable, high-quality
cross border communications solutions, as an enabled
feature of MetroCONNECT, CPCNet's Global Broadband Roaming
(GBR) service lets enterprises access the Internet fast
and reliably at broadband-enabled access points for
efficient overseas communication.
"Once you have the proper measures in place, security
becomes a business enabler rather than an impediment
to business," said Stephen Ho, Chief Executive
Officer of CPCNet. "We fully understand, however,
that putting those measures in place takes time and
effort which can be quite a challenge for companies.
That's the problem we are trying to address with our
new service offering."
Symantec Gateway Security appliances offer easy-to-manage,
multi-function integrated security technology that tightly
integrates anti-spam, anti virus, anti-spyware, clientless
SSL and IPSec VPN, full-inspection firewall, intrusion
prevention, intrusion detection, and content filtering
capabilities to provide proactive, zero-day protection
against today's complex internet threats.
"The great thing about this partnership between
Symantec and CPCNet is that it delivers everything customers
need to connect up their businesses, quickly and securely,"
said Michael Chue, managing director, Symantec Hong
Kong.
"According to the latest Symantec Internet Security
Threat Report IX, there was a notable increase in threats
designed to facilitate cyber crime that may allow an
attacker to capture personal, financial and confidential
information for financial gain. [1] The business environment
in China is increasingly dynamic, requiring companies
of all sizes to respond with stronger security policies
to protect sensitive company information. Mid-sized
businesses are often constrained by limited IT resources,
and even large enterprises are challenged to respond
and stay ahead of the changing threat landscape. With
our first all-in-one connectivity and security managed
solution, Hong Kong enterprises with operations in Greater
China will save themselves the hassle and costs associated
with managing their network security in-house."
The MetroCONNECT service uses the latest Metro Ethernet
technology to provide point-to-point leased line grade
connectivity from customer premises to CPCNet's point-of-presence
(POP). Connectivity is always-on and customers are connected
to CPCNet's robust IP network 24 hours a day. This assures
that bandwidth is available all the time it is required.
7x24 telephone and email consultation is available for
technical support. It also includes unlimited Internet
usage, Web-based traffic report, and enterprise email
capability. With its MetroCONNECT service CPCNet will
provide round-the-clock network monitoring and management
to ensure network performance remains optimal.
The newly joint service offering provides enterprises
with the flexibility and availability of the Symantec
Gateway Security Series appliances through a monthly
package to cater to their security needs, thus reducing
the upfront investment and providing an easy to up-grade
solution.
Customers can choose from a wide range of MetroCONNECT
service and Symantec Gateway Security appliance configurations
to suite their specific requirements. For example, medium
size companies and branch offices of larger organisations
may choose a package comprising a MetroCONNECT 2Mbps
node and a Symantec Gateway Security 1600 Series appliance.
For larger enterprises with heavier network traffic
loads, a MetroCONNECT 10Mbps node and Symantec Gateway
Security 5600 Series appliance - offering scalable throughput,
built-in hardware redundancy and the option of integrated
high availability and load balancing - may be more appropriate.
The starting price for the new combined service will
be HK$ 5,250 per month depending on the configuration
selected.
